Wisconsin CDL Practice Test and Test Prep (2026)

Wisconsin gives CDL tests through Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Division of Motor Vehicles (WisDOT DMV). Here is what you will be tested on, which of our practice quizzes match each test, and what the skills test involves in Wisconsin.

Our practice questions are original and based on the national model CDL manual, not aWisconsin-specific question bank or real exam questions. Passing practice does not guarantee a test result.Check Wisconsin requirements and source notes.

Wisconsin endorsement tests and practice

  • Hazmat (H) practice
    Wisconsin notes for this endorsement

Wisconsin is one of the eight TSA self-managed hazmat states. You apply using form MV3735 and are fingerprinted through the state's contracted vendor Fieldprint (schedule at FieldprintWisconsin.com using code FPWIDMVHazmat) — not through a national IdentoGO/TSA universal-enrollment center. You must be fingerprinted within 7 days of passing the H knowledge test. The security threat assessment is valid 5 years, so the H endorsement renews (with new fingerprints) every 5 years, shorter than the 8-year CDL. Form MV3735 references a $44 background-check fee; confirm the current fee (and any separate Fieldprint collection fee) directly with the DMV. First-time H also requires ELDT theory training and the H knowledge test.

  • Tanker (N) practice
    Wisconsin notes for this endorsement

    Tank vehicles.

  • Passenger (P) practice
    Wisconsin notes for this endorsement

    Passenger; requires ELDT for first-timers.

  • School bus (S) practice
    Wisconsin notes for this endorsement

School bus; requires ELDT for first-timers. Not covered by the military waiver.

  • Doubles/triples (T) practice
    Wisconsin notes for this endorsement

    Double/triple trailers.

The Wisconsin skills test

Components: Pre-trip / vehicle inspection, Basic control skills, On-road driving test.

Test vehicle: You must test in the same class and type of CMV you intend to drive. You generally supply the vehicle, though a third-party tester may provide one for an additional rental fee.

Where and how to book: Wisconsin CDL skills tests are administered by state-certified third-party testers, listed by county. Testing is by appointment only — walk-ins are not permitted — with a minimum two-day waiting period noted.

Waits and retests: Availability depends on the individual third-party tester; the DMV does not publish a statewide wait time.

Practice the inspection part with our pre-trip inspection guide. Research dated 2026-10-12; confirm testing details with Wisconsin.
