West Virginia CDL Practice Test and Test Prep (2026)
West Virginia gives CDL tests through West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles (WV DMV). Here is what you will be tested on, which of our practice quizzes match each test, and what the skills test involves in West Virginia.

- Combination Vehicles (Class A) — practice Combination Vehicles (30 questions)
- Air Brakes (if your vehicle has them) — practice Air Brakes (40 questions)
- Any endorsement tests you need (P, S, H, N, T)
Permit minimum age: 18 (in-state driving) or 21 (interstate). Holding period before the skills test: 14 days. Permit validity: 365 days.
West Virginia endorsement tests and practice
- Hazmat (H) practice
West Virginia notes for this endorsement
West Virginia is NOT a TSA self-managed state. You complete the TSA hazmat threat assessment — fingerprinting and background check — through TSA/Universal Enrollment Services (IdentoGO), not the DMV; the DMV lists the UES help desk at 1-855-347-8371 and an $85.25 fingerprint/background fee paid to TSA. The H endorsement requires a knowledge test and is subject to retesting at every renewal and on transfer into WV.
- Tanker (N) practice
West Virginia notes for this endorsement
Tank vehicles.
- Passenger (P) practice
West Virginia notes for this endorsement
Passenger; requires an additional road skills test, plus ELDT for first-timers.
- School bus (S) practice
West Virginia notes for this endorsement
School bus; requires an additional road skills test, plus ELDT for first-timers. Cannot be transferred via the military waiver.
- Doubles/triples (T) practice
West Virginia notes for this endorsement
Double/triple trailers.
The West Virginia skills test
Components: Pre-trip vehicle inspection, Basic vehicle control, On-road driving test.
Test vehicle: You must provide the vehicle used for the test, and it must be the class and type of CMV you expect to operate.
Where and how to book: The WV DMV CDL page lists third-party skills examiners by county with contact phone numbers, in addition to DMV testing. You schedule directly with the examiner or DMV regional office.
Waits and retests: The DMV publishes no statewide wait-time figure; availability depends on the individual examiner or office.
Practice the inspection part with our pre-trip inspection guide. Research dated 2026-10-12; confirm testing details with West Virginia.
