Nevada CDL Practice Test and Test Prep (2026)
Nevada gives CDL tests through Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Here is what you will be tested on, which of our practice quizzes match each test, and what the skills test involves in Nevada.
Knowledge tests for a Nevada permit
- General Knowledge (all applicants) — practice General Knowledge (60 questions)
- Combination Vehicles (Class A) — practice Combination Vehicles (30 questions)
- Air Brakes (if your vehicle has them) — practice Air Brakes (40 questions)
- Any endorsement tests you need (P, S, H, N, T)
Permit minimum age: 18 (in-state driving) or 21 (interstate). Holding period before the skills test: 14 days. Permit validity: 180 days.
Nevada endorsement tests and practice
- Hazmat (H) practice
Nevada notes for this endorsement
Requires the hazmat knowledge test plus a TSA Security Threat Assessment. Nevada is NOT a TSA self-managed state — fingerprinting is done through TSA's vendor (IdentoGO).
- Tanker (N) practice
Nevada notes for this endorsement
Tank vehicles. (Described in the CDL manual; not printed verbatim on every HTML page reviewed.)
- Passenger (P) practice
Nevada notes for this endorsement
Passenger; ELDT required for first-timers. Ages 18–20 cannot exercise the P endorsement (Restriction R).
- School bus (S) practice
Nevada notes for this endorsement
School bus; ELDT required for first-timers.
- Doubles/triples (T) practice
Nevada notes for this endorsement
Doubles/triples (knowledge test only).
The Nevada skills test
Components: Pre-trip vehicle inspection, Basic control skills, On-road driving test.
Test vehicle: You must bring a vehicle representative of the class and endorsements you're seeking, empty, with the manufacturer's GVWR/GCWR plate and valid registration and a Nevada Evidence of Insurance card (SR-22 not accepted). It doesn't have to be personally owned: leased or rented vehicles are allowed with the rental agreement (most rental companies require a 'Permission to Test' letter). Bring your own pointer for the pre-trip inspection. Third-party CDL schools typically provide a compliant vehicle.
Where and how to book: State skills tests are offered only at select offices — Elko, North Las Vegas, Reno, and Winnemucca (Mon–Fri; a Las Vegas Silverado office is listed as coming) — after you pass all knowledge tests; the CLP page says DMV skills tests are by appointment. Arrive 15 minutes early. Third-party testing is scheduled at least four days in advance. Nevada runs a Third-Party CDL testing program (employers, schools, government entities), so some schools and companies can administer the skills test.
Waits and retests: Skills testing is channeled through just four state offices plus third-party sites, so appointment demand in the Las Vegas and Reno metros is real — book ahead and expect the tester's own scheduling window.
Practice the inspection part with our pre-trip inspection guide. Research dated 2026-10-12; confirm testing details with Nevada.
