Idaho endorsement tests and practice
- Hazmat (H) practice
Idaho notes for this endorsement
Hazmat. Idaho is NOT a TSA self-managed state, so you use the standard federal process: pass the hazmat knowledge test and complete the TSA Security Threat Assessment (fingerprinting/background check) through TSA's Universal Enrollment vendor (IdentoGO/IDEMIA), currently about $85.25. Requires ELDT for first-time applicants and proof of U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residence.
- Tanker (N) practice
Idaho notes for this endorsement
Tank vehicles. Knowledge test.
- Passenger (P) practice

Passenger. Requires ELDT for first-timers plus knowledge and skills testing.
- School bus (S) practice
Idaho notes for this endorsement
School bus. Requires ELDT for first-timers plus the passenger and school bus knowledge/skills testing.
- Doubles/triples (T) practice
Idaho notes for this endorsement
Double/triple trailers. Knowledge test only.
The Idaho skills test
Components: Pre-trip inspection, Basic vehicle control skills (e.g., backing), On-road driving test.
Test vehicle: You must supply your own commercial vehicle representative of the class of CDL you're seeking, in safe operating condition. If you're borrowing the vehicle and the owner won't be present, bring the owner's written permission.
Where and how to book: In Idaho the CDL skills test is given by ITD-authorized third-party CDL skills test examiners — county DMV offices do not administer the CDL road test. ITD publishes examiner lists by district; you contact an examiner directly to schedule. The county DMV still collects a $10 skills test fee and processes your license.
Waits and retests: Examiner availability is limited and demand is high, so schedule well in advance. The examiner sets and collects their own fee (up to $190) on top of the $10 county fee.
Practice the inspection part with our pre-trip inspection guide. Research dated 2026-10-12; confirm testing details with Idaho.
