Georgia gives CDL tests through Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS). Here is what you will be tested on, which of our practice quizzes match each test, and what the skills test involves in Georgia.

- General Knowledge (all applicants) — practice General Knowledge (60 questions)
- Combination Vehicles (Class A) — practice Combination Vehicles (30 questions)
- Air Brakes (if applicable) — practice Air Brakes (40 questions)
- Any endorsement tests you need (P, S, H, N, T)
Permit minimum age: 18 (in-state driving) or 21 (interstate). Holding period before the skills test: 14 days. Permit validity: 365 days.

- Passenger (P) practice
Georgia notes for this endorsement
Requires ELDT plus a knowledge test and a road skills retest in the appropriate vehicle.
- School bus (S) practice
Georgia notes for this endorsement
Requires the P endorsement first, plus ELDT, an S knowledge test, and a skills retest.
- Doubles/triples (T) practice
The Georgia skills test
Components: Pre-trip vehicle inspection, Basic vehicle control skills, On-road driving test, Vision exam.
Test vehicle: You must supply a representative vehicle for the class of CDL you're seeking. Confirm exact vehicle requirements with DDS or your testing site.
Where and how to book: Road tests at DDS are by appointment; DDS publishes a list of state and third-party testing sites. Approved CDL schools and accredited public programs can administer the road skills test through Georgia's CDL Third-Party Testing Program.
Waits and retests: DDS publishes no official wait-time figure. Third-party schools typically test their own students without the DDS appointment backlog — treat wait times as variable and confirm locally.
Practice the inspection part with our pre-trip inspection guide. Research dated 2026-10-12; confirm testing details with Georgia.
