Florida CDL Practice Test and Test Prep (2026)
Florida gives CDL tests through Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV). Here is what you will be tested on, which of our practice quizzes match each test, and what the skills test involves in Florida.
Knowledge tests for a Florida permit
- General Knowledge (all applicants) — practice General Knowledge (60 questions)
- Combination Vehicles (Class A) — practice Combination Vehicles (30 questions)
- Air Brakes (if your vehicle has them) — practice Air Brakes (40 questions)
- Any endorsement tests you need (P, S, H, N, T)
Permit minimum age: 18 (in-state driving) or 21 (interstate). Holding period before the skills test: 14 days. Permit validity: 365 days.
Florida endorsement tests and practice
- Hazmat (H) practice
Florida notes for this endorsement
Florida is a TSA self-managed state: you are fingerprinted at an FLHSMV driver license (or tax collector) office during the same visit you pass the 30-question hazmat test — no separate IdentoGO trip. Florida charges a single $91 background-check fee, and a hazmat CDL renews every 4 years.
- Tanker (N) practice
- Passenger (P) practice
- School bus (S) practice
Florida notes for this endorsement
Requires the P endorsement first, plus S knowledge and skills tests and ELDT for first-timers.
- Doubles/triples (T) practice
The Florida skills test
Components: Pre-trip vehicle inspection, Basic vehicle control, On-road driving test.
Test vehicle: The FLHSMV site list has an 'Is CMV Provided?' column — some testers supply a vehicle, others require you to bring your own. Listed testing prices run roughly $199–$800 depending on class and whether a vehicle is provided.
Where and how to book: You schedule directly with a site on FLHSMV's statewide list of contracted commercial skill-test sites (organized by city with phone numbers).
Waits and retests: FLHSMV publishes no official wait times; availability depends on the private site you pick. Bringing a compliant vehicle or using a school that bundles testing usually speeds scheduling.
Practice the inspection part with our pre-trip inspection guide. Research dated 2026-10-12; confirm testing details with Florida.
