Colorado CDL Practice Test and Test Prep (2026)

Colorado gives CDL tests through Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV), Department of Revenue. Here is what you will be tested on, which of our practice quizzes match each test, and what the skills test involves in Colorado.

Our practice questions are original and based on the national model CDL manual, not aColorado-specific question bank or real exam questions. Passing practice does not guarantee a test result.Check Colorado requirements and source notes.

Colorado endorsement tests and practice

  • Hazmat (H) practice
    Colorado notes for this endorsement

Requires the hazmat knowledge test (English only), a valid TSA background check each time you purchase the CDL, and ELDT for first-timers. Colorado uses the standard TSA/IdentoGO process — it is not a self-managed state. Renewal requires a valid TSA clearance on file plus the hazmat written test, taken at an office by appointment.

  • Tanker (N) practice
    Colorado notes for this endorsement

Tanker (knowledge test) for bulk liquids/gases; cement mixers do not require N.

  • Passenger (P) practice
    Colorado notes for this endorsement

Passenger. Requires ELDT plus a full skills test in a passenger vehicle.

  • School bus (S) practice
    Colorado notes for this endorsement

School bus. Requires ELDT plus a skills test in a school bus and cannot stand alone — the P endorsement is required.

  • Doubles/triples (T) practice
    Colorado notes for this endorsement

Double/triple trailers (knowledge test only; Class A only).

The Colorado skills test

Components: Pre-trip (vehicle) inspection, Basic vehicle-controls test, On-road driving test.

Test vehicle: The skills test must be taken in the same class and type of vehicle you intend to drive; the vehicle's equipment determines restrictions (for example, an automatic adds 'E', no air brakes adds 'L', a non-tractor Class A adds 'O').

Where and how to book: State driver-license offices no longer offer the CDL skills test — it is administered only by state-certified CDL third-party testers. After the 14-day CLP hold and ELDT completion, you schedule directly with an approved school/tester, which records your result in CSTIMS.

Waits and retests: Third-party facilities set their own fees and scheduling; the DMV does not publish official wait times. A estimated market figure is around $275 for the third-party skills test, which varies by provider.

Practice the inspection part with our pre-trip inspection guide. Research dated 2026-07-20; confirm testing details with Colorado.
