Arizona CDL Practice Test and Test Prep (2026)

Arizona gives CDL tests through Arizona Department of Transportation, Motor Vehicle Division (ADOT MVD). Here is what you will be tested on, which of our practice quizzes match each test, and what the skills test involves in Arizona.

Our practice questions are original and based on the national model CDL manual, not aArizona-specific question bank or real exam questions. Passing practice does not guarantee a test result.Check Arizona requirements and source notes.

Knowledge tests for a Arizona permit

Permit minimum age: 18 (in-state driving) or 21 (interstate). Holding period before the skills test: 14 days. Permit validity: 365 days.

Arizona endorsement tests and practice

  • Hazmat (H) practice
    Arizona notes for this endorsement

Requires the hazmat knowledge test plus the TSA Security Threat Assessment. Arizona is not a TSA self-managed state, so fingerprinting/STA is via TSA/IdentoGO; the check renews every 5 years and is submitted electronically to MVD (apply ~45 days before expiration). A TWIC card is not accepted in lieu of the TSA check, and failure to renew cancels all driving privileges. Not available under 21.

  • Tanker (N) practice
    Arizona notes for this endorsement

    Tank (knowledge test).

  • Passenger (P) practice
    Arizona notes for this endorsement

Passenger. A Class C permit is issued only with a P endorsement.

  • School bus (S) practice
    Arizona notes for this endorsement

School bus. No permit fee; requires ELDT plus P and S knowledge and skills tests in the correct bus size for first-timers.

  • Doubles/triples (T) practice
    Arizona notes for this endorsement

Double/triple trailers (knowledge test only, no separate skills test).

The Arizona skills test

Components: Pre-trip inspection, Basic vehicle controls, On-road driving test.

Test vehicle: At an MVD CDL office you must provide your own test vehicle representative of the class you're seeking; some third-party testers may provide a vehicle for a fee.

Where and how to book: Arizona relies heavily on Authorized Third Party (ATP) CDL examination providers with MVD-certified examiners for Class A/B/C skills tests. Knowledge testing is available at MVD offices (no appointment in Phoenix/Tucson metro; appointment required elsewhere). Skills testing is by appointment only — call MVD at 602-255-0072 or visit an office, and a CDL tester will contact you.

Waits and retests: Wait times vary; Authorized Third Party providers are the main path to skills testing and can offer more availability than MVD sites.

Practice the inspection part with our pre-trip inspection guide. Research dated 2026-07-20; confirm testing details with Arizona.
